Welcome to the Windy City

Feb 1, 2018

We’re headed to Chicago’s McCormick Place – West Building Convention Center for AFP 2018 this November. Here’s some tips on getting to and around this extraordinary city.

So Many Travel Options

With two world-class airports located nearby, getting to Chicago is both convenient and affordable. Midway International Airport and O’Hare International Airport host a total of 80 carriers and their regional airline partners, ensuring you’ll find a flight to match your travel preferences. AFP is working on travel deals with various airlines. Check our website this spring for more information.

Looking to drive in? There is plenty of parking at the McCormick Place Convention Center.

Once you’re in town, you’ll be a short ride away from everything Chicago has to offer. Take advantage of special Uber discounts (more to come on this later) and if you happen to be staying at one of the hotels outside walking range, complimentary shuttle service will be offered to the McCormick Place – West Building.

Where to Eat

During AFP 2018, breakfast and lunch are on us and feature the exclusive caterer SAVOR…Chicago who takes pride in serving organic and locally sourced food. In fact, they’ve created a 2.5 acre rooftop garden at the West Building where seasonal harvests such as beets, kale, carrots and much more are grown.

In a metropolitan city like Chicago, there are plenty of food options to please every palate. The city is known for its deep-dish pizza (something everyone should try at least once), but check out this Restaurant Guide to discover the many other unique dishes to try. If you’d like some assistance planning your nightly dinners, McCormick Place will be offering complimentary concierge services to AFP where attendees can book private dining and make reservations

Sights Worth Seeing

Before or after the conference, be sure to discover some of the many Chicago Sights and Attractions near the McCormick Place convention center, all a short walk or ride away. Here are a few things I suggest:

•   Walk on Chicago’s sparkling Lake Michigan waterfront
•   Explore a mysterious Egyptian tomb at The Field Museum
•   Watch dolphins and beluga whales at the Shedd Aquarium
•   Be blasted into the cosmos in a cutting-edge sky theater at the Adler Planetarium.
•   Snap a mirror selfie at the iconic Chicago Bean
•   Take a behind-the-scenes tour at Soldier Field, home to the Chicago Bears football team

We’re also really excited to be hosting our 2018 Welcome Reception at Chicago’s iconic Revel Motor Row. Here we’ll be featuring the history of Chicago’s world-famous blues musicians, sports teams, festivals, and more, making this an event you won’t want to miss.
