As you walk through the beautiful lawns or pass by the brilliantly colored mural and flowers of A Safe Haven Foundation (ASHF), it is hard to imagine the suffering that the men, women and adorable children have endured. One alum said, “Places like this just don’t exist!”
A Safe Haven provides a transitional space for men and women to focus on recovery, a healthy space for their children, and the tools for each individual to overcome the root causes of homelessness and associated mental health and substance use disorders. Equipped with new strategies, men and women exit its doors with restored health, housing and employment, and a renewed sense of pride and purpose. The visible social and economic impact unites families, stabilizes neighborhoods, and creates vibrant, viable communities.
Dayone, Veteran and mother of two, living in recovery today says it best, "It really is a life-changing experience, for me and thousands of others. If you are going to donate (or volunteer), A Safe Haven is the perfect place because you will help people like me to get on their feet and succeed."
As you walk in the morning of AFP Aware, you may see someone like Sandra, who recently thought all was lost. Sandra decided to accept help and go to A Safe Haven, and she calls it, “the best decision of my life”. She recovered her health, and after one month she had a job and was reunited with her kids. Though she feels overwhelmed with the intense work that goes into recovery, she describes her experience as “awesome”. When she was living in addiction and homelessness, and isolated from her family, she would have never imagined describing her life with a positive word.
At A Safe Haven Foundation, we find it extremely important to engage a diversity of stakeholders from all facets of our city, and hosting concerned citizens as Volunteer Ambassadors is a wonderful way for ASHF to include interested partners in our efforts at transforming lives; to that end, we are thrilled
and extremely grateful to be partnering with the Association for Financial Professionals in November for a fun and hard day of volunteer work beautifying the building, feeding those in need, and assembling hygiene kits for our residents.
We believe you will truly enjoy your community outreach project. Thank you, thank you, and thank you for choosing A Safe Haven Foundation as you meet Corporate Social Responsibility goals and reach out to make the world a better place.
