AFP 2019 in Boston: Arrive Early, Stay Late

Oct 7, 2019

By Dave O’Donnell, Director of Strategic Communications with the Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau

Fall has arrived in Boston and AFP 2019 is around the corner! The conference takes place in the South Boston Seaport District October 20-23 and we encourage attendees to come early and stay late to explore our beautiful and historic city during a gorgeous time of year.

The conference begins as Boston is hosting one of its iconic annual events—The Head of the Charles Regatta. Celebrating its 55th year in 2019, the regatta is the world’s largest two-day rowing event. Take advantage of your time in Boston and stroll over to the banks of the Charles to watch 11,000 athletes compete along the river. The regatta occurs over the weekend of October 19 and 20.

If you’re feeling more bookish than recreational, then head instead to Copley Square, which holds its annual Boston Book Festival over the same weekend. From author talks to literary walks, the Boston Book Festival transforms Copley Square into a world of poetry and prose, a true celebration of the power of words.

Boston is always home to a great array of cultural events, but the fall features a particularly active lineup of performing arts. The Boston Symphony Orchestra will be playing concerts from Beethoven, Bach and Brahms on the afternoon of Friday, October 18 and the evening of Saturday, October 19, while the Celebrity Series of Boston will be in full swing. Also happening over the week of AFP 2019, one of the city’s most cherished venues—the Boston Opera House—teams up with Broadway in Boston to put on a stunning stage adaptation of The Lion King.

After the conference concludes, stick around for a few days to explore all that Boston has to offer. Take in our world-class museums, our impactful history, our signature seafood dishes, and our exciting sports teams. Head over to the TD Garden where the Bruins play the Toronto Maple Leafs on October 22 and the Celtics host the Toronto Raptors on October 25. Scope out the locally-sourced Boston Public Market, which puts on its annual Harvest Party on the evening of October 24.

It’s Boston in October, a period of autumnal delight that just happens to coincide with the AFP annual conference.  What a perfectly timed event! We can’t wait to welcome you to Boston.

Come to AFP 2019 and experience Boston. Register for the conference here.
