Passport and Visa Requirements
Passport Requirements
American citizens entering the U.S. must show a valid passport, U.S. passport card, a Trusted Traveler Program card (NEXUS, SENTRI, Global Entry or FAST), or an enhanced driver’s license. Citizens of Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda must present a valid passport from their country to travel to the U.S. by air.
- Canadian citizens may use a NEXUS card instead of a passport to enter the U.S. by air, if they departed from Canada.
- Citizens of Mexico and Panama can apply for Global Entry membership. Find out if you are eligible to apply for Global Entry.
All travelers entering the United States from all other countries need a passport upon arrival (regardless of their country of citizenship).
- Permanent residents and foreign nationals may also need a U.S. Visa. You must apply for a visa before you start your trip. There are several steps to apply for a visa. The order of these steps and how you complete them may vary by U.S. Embassy or Consulate. Please consult the instructions on the U.S. Embassy or Consulate website. Apply early! We suggest you begin the visa application process at least 90 days prior to your travel date.
Visa Waiver Program
International visitors who need a visa to travel to the U.S. must apply for one at an American embassy or consulate. The Visa Waiver Program lists
the participating countries.
ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) Scams
International travelers who are seeking to travel to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program are now subject to security requirements and will be required to pay an administrative fee. Travelers should only use the official government site.
International Requests for Letters of Invitation
To request a letter of invitation you must first register for AFP 2024.
These letters do not and cannot commit the Organizing Committee to any financial obligation. Upon successful completion of your online registration and after having made full payment, please provide the following information to AFP Customer Service:
I have registered for AFP 2024 and request a letter of invitation.
- Name as it appears on your Passport
- Address
- Passport Number
- Arrival Date
- Departure Date
Travel Requirements and Advisories
Preclearance
U.S. Customs and Border Protection Preclearance is the strategic stationing of CBP law enforcement personnel overseas to process travelers prior to boarding U.S.-bound flights. Preclearance is available in select airports in Canada, the Bahamas, Bermuda, Aruba, Ireland and the United Arab Emirates.

Currency

Customs and Laws
Tipping
Tipping is voluntary; gratuities are not automatically added to the bill except in some cases for large groups.
Here are some tipping guidelines:
- Servers – for good service 20%
- Taxi Drivers - 15%
- Doormen, Skycaps and Porters - $2 per bag
Electricity
The electricity used in Nashville, TN is standard electricity, which is 110 volts. Appliances brought from Europe, Africa and most of Asia and Latin America will require a voltage transformer.
